Egypt at a Glance
Overview
Egypt combines a large, low-cost, vertically integrated textile base with the shortest sea route to Europe of any major garment-exporting country — a factor that matters more each year as brands shorten sourcing lead times. Cotton is grown domestically (Giza extra-long-staple varieties command a premium globally), spun, woven, and cut-and-sewn largely within a few industrial clusters, reducing the multi-country fragmentation common in Asian supply chains.
Preferential access to the EU and duty-free access to the US for qualifying goods (via the Qualifying Industrial Zone program, in partnership with Israeli input sourcing) give Egyptian exporters a structural cost advantage on landed price that pure labor-cost comparisons alone understate.

Sources & Methodology
Factory counts and certification shares are live figures from the Egytex Directory (2,548 registered companies as of this profile's last review). Wage, tariff, and lead-time figures are indicative benchmarks compiled from Egypt's Ministry of Trade and Industry, GAFI (General Authority for Investment), the EU–Egypt Association Agreement text, and publicly published freight transit schedules — they illustrate typical terms, not a guarantee for any specific shipment or contract. Regional peer comparisons (Bangladesh, Vietnam, Turkey) use publicly available minimum wage and tariff schedules as of the review date and should be independently verified for any commercial decision.
