Apparel Firms Told Upgrade Technology

Clothing manufacturers in Hong Kong have been warned they will miss out on future orders unless they invest more in new technology instead of merchandising.

Speaking at the launch of a new lingerie technology centre in China, Professor Alexander Kung said Hong Kong garment makers needed to upgrade their machinery and technology if they were to thrive.

Prof Kung, one of the pioneers of laser-scanner 3D garment technology, said the upgrades would boost firms' efficiency, output and creativity.

"Manufacturers should become more decisive in adopting technological change," he said at the opening of the new lingerie research centre in Yanbu, Nanhai.
