A Bangladesh delegation led by Foreign Minister Dipu Moni is currently in Cairo to attend the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit.
According to the release, during the signing both the countries underlined ‘the importance of deepening and widening their relations’ based on commonality of history, culture and interests.
They believe the MoU will facilitate regular consultations and kick off ‘a new beginning’ of collaboration between the two countries.
The Egyptian Assistant Minister is likely to visit Bangladesh this year for the first bilateral consultation, it said.
The Bangladesh Foreign Secretary underscored the need for regular consultations to expand cooperation in different fields, including trade, investment, education, culture, science and technology and agriculture.
He requested Egypt to consider early completion of negotiations on few more agreements in fields such as education and culture, science and technology, investment protection and avoidance of double taxation between them.
The Egyptian Assistant Minister assured the Bangladesh side of working towards that.
Dhaka also requested Cairo to consider relaxation of quota system for employing more skilled and semi-skilled workforce from Bangladesh in the Egyptian textile and garment industry.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador in Riyadh Shahidul Islam, Ambassador in Egypt Mizanur Rahman, and foreign ministry’s Director General (West Asia) Nazrul Islam, were present, among others during the signing.
