Egypt's Exports of Cotton Amount to 2.5 Million Qintars for the current season

After the successive recess of the export ratios of the Egyptian cotton in the past years, the current season made a remarkable record of increase, exceeding LE 1.0 billion. Experts ascribe this to the decline of its prices, compared to the international ones. There is now hope that the Egyptian cotton would retrieve its standing again, especially with the problems faced by American cotton. Experts stress the necessity of encouraging farmers to plant vast areas of cotton to maintain the export ratios and increase them in the coming years. Mufrih El Biltagi, member of the Cotton Exporters Association, explained that the size of cotton exports has increased this year; about 2.5 million qintars were exported.

El Biltagi hinted that there is high potentiality that the Egyptian cotton restores its past status, especially because the American Pima cotton, the sole rival of the Egyptian cotton, is encountering some problems, because of diminished cultivated areas and irrigation problems. He added that there must be a plan through which the productivity be increased by contriving new types. Concerning the farmers being affected by the lower prices of cotton this season, El-Biltagi pointed out that the prices started to rise by the end of season, and are expected to continue for next season, which is a strong incentive for cultivating cotton next season. As to diminish cultivated areas, El Biltagi clarified that the cultivated area this season was good, for both the exporters, local production and expresses hope that next year will witness the same. He said that uncontrollable weather conditions play a major role.
