India cotton output estimates to hit 32.9 mln bales
As a boost to the growing demand of Indian cotton international market, country’s cotton output this crop year is likely to rise to an all-time high of 32.9 million bales, higher than the previous forecast. Textile Commissioner A.B. Joshi told said Thursday.

Despite some crop damage in the southern region from rains, the northern and central regions have shown some improvement in production, which will boost overall production, r A.B. Joshi told reporters after the meeting of the government-run Cotton Advisory Board.
India, the world's second-largest cotton producer and exporter, earlier forecast production of 32.5 million bales in the crop year that started Oct. 1. The country produced 29.5 million bales in 2009-10. Each bale weighs 170 kilograms.
The higher output estimates may mean the government will increase exports beyond a quota of 5.5 million bales.
Demand for Indian cotton from overseas buyers has soared over the past few months as China and Pakistan, the other key producers, are forecasting a drop in output due to floods.
