It is Time to have a New Strategy to Deal with Egyptian Cotton
Minister of Agriculture Dr. Ezzeddin Abu Setit said that it is time for a new strategy to deal with Egyptian cotton. A large part of the strategy depends on the development of manufacturing capacities of the processors and local factories for export and take advantage of the added value.

The new strategy is aimed at transforming raw cotton into world-class textile products with a global reputation, the Minister of Agriculture said during a telephone interview with DMC evening program.
He explained that the ministry will cooperate with the Ministries of Supply, Trade, Industry and the business sector to implement this strategy. Cotton is a three-purpose crop. The staple is used to get fibers, the seed is used to extract oil and what is left of the crushing process is used as animal feed to limit the importation of feed from abroad.
He added that the ministry is responsible for the production of clean cotton from the cotton of the previous season, and the implementation of campaigns to guide farmers and continue to produce high-productivity varieties, adding that there is an increase this year in the average productivity of cotton about a kantar per feddan, with some varieties increased productivity to 8 kantars per feddan instead of 7 last year, and some of which were close to 10 kantars per feddan.
Prime Minister Mustapha Medbouli on Tuesday charged ministers of Supply, Agriculture, Trade, Industry and business with a two-week plan to maintain the status of Egyptian cotton.
