Italy's imports of cotton denim fabrics recovered in the last year, reflecting a surge in shipments from Egypt while imports from other EU members were much weaker. Italy's denim exports did not fall at the same time with the main part being sent to relocated denim apparel plants in Tunisia, Romania and Morocco. Sales to the United States remained healthy despite a new increase in the euro against the dollar.
