JAPAN: Japan`s imports of Indonesian cotton yarn continue to rise.
According to the Japan Spinners’ Association, cotton yarn imports in November 2010 jumped 42.9% year-on-year to 27,644 bales. The sharp import increase is attributed to the arrival of demand season and the fact that imports were at a historically low level of less than 20,000 bales in November 2009.

Indonesia was the largest supplier with imports growing 86.9% to 9,191 bales. Imports from India also climbed 81.2% to 5,810 bales. Meanwhile, imports from Pakistan fell by 16.2% to 6,841 bales.
Imports of combed cotton yarn continued to rise with a 58.8% increase to 15,747 bales. As a result of the decrease in combed yarn production in Japan, the weight of imports in the market is increasing.
November imports of cotton blended yarn grew by 32.2% to 3,293 bales, and continued a gradual recovery.
