J.C. Penney March same-store sales decline 7.2 pct
J.C. Penney Co. said Thursday same-store sales slid 7.2 percent in March, which was less than Wall Street expected. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters forecast a 10.5 percent same-store sales dropoff.

The department-store operator said its spring merchandise has been received well, with strong responses to its women's assortments and home items. Its weakest category was fine jewelry. Total sales for the period ended April 4 fell 5.4 percent to $1.46 billion. J.C. Penney, based in Plano, Texas, runs 1,101 department stores throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico
