Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has announced the completion of the first phase of Egypt's ambitious national project to modernize and revitalize the textile industry. This phase includes the operationalization of key facilities such as Ghazl 4 and Ghazl 1, as well as additional textile preparation factories and the construction of power generation infrastructure to support operations.

The next phases of the project are set to expand the modernization efforts to facilities in El-Mahalla, Kafr El-Dawar, Damietta, Mansoura, Minya, and Helwan. According to the Prime Minister, phase two is scheduled for completion by mid-2025, with the entire project anticipated to conclude by early 2026.

Madbouly highlighted the financial scale of the initiative, revealing that the total cost exceeds EGP 56 billion. Of this, EGP 22 billion has been allocated for infrastructure development, with an additional EGP 640 million invested in cutting-edge machinery and equipment. These substantial expenditures, he emphasized, underline the government’s commitment to restoring the textile sector as a critical pillar of the national economy.

The Prime Minister underscored the historical significance of the textile industry, which once contributed approximately 40% of Egypt’s GDP but had dwindled to just 2.5-3% before the current revitalization efforts began. The comprehensive plan seeks to address every stage of the production process—from cotton ginning to fabric finishing—ensuring optimal utilization of Egypt’s world-renowned cotton and reducing dependency on raw cotton exports.

Speaking during a televised address following his inspection of factories operated by the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in El-Mahalla El-Kubra, Madbouly praised the progress achieved under the project and described it as a collaborative national effort. He noted that the revitalized factories, particularly "Ghazl 4," now stand as a testament to Egypt’s capacity to produce on a global scale.

Ghazl 4, the largest textile manufacturing facility in the world under one roof, spans 62,000 square meters and houses 188,000 spindles. Alongside Ghazl 1, it represents a significant leap in production capacity, with the latter alone producing 30-35 tons of textiles daily. The increased output will meet domestic demands while generating export opportunities and reducing reliance on imported goods.

Madbouly concluded by reiterating the government’s dedication to transforming the textile industry into a global leader. “This initiative is not just about restoring an industry but about safeguarding a source of national pride and positioning Egypt at the forefront of global textile production," he stated, emphasizing the project's alignment with broader economic development goals.
