Textile Exporters Want EU Trade Benefits

Indian knitwear exporters today called on the government to ask the EU to give the country's textile exporters the same package of preferential trade benefits as Pakistan and Bangladesh.

During a meeting with officials in New Delhi, industry chiefs warned domestic producers were being undercut by the two rivals who both enjoy duty free status.

Tirupur Exporters' Association president, A Shaktivel, also asked the government to extend drawback to between 17 and 24 per cent, as in Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Asia Pulse newspaper reported.
