Researches on Designing Non-Linear Stitch Cam, for Single Circular Knitting Machines
Summary
An aspect of technological improvement in circular weft-knitting machinery, that is of major importance, is the increase of the rate of fabric production, by increasing the circumferential speed of the machine. The increase of the knitting speed is most of all permitted by using mathematically designed non-linear cams witch provide a complete control over the needle-butt acceleration resulting in a continuous curve acceleration with maximum values that are not too high.
Ones of the most suitable mathematical functions, to define the profile of the stitch cam, are polynomial functions of five degree, six degree and seven degree.
In the structure of the knitting system, the stitch cam is placed between the clearing and the raising cams. Consequently, the authors' investigate the effects of the three polynomial functions (of five, six and seven degree), on designing the stitch cam (curve BC), by considering two cases for the boundary conditions: case a) - y”B = y”C = 0 and case b) - y”B ¹ 0, y”C ¹ 0 or y”B ¹ 0, y”C = 0 . By the analyze of the 21 resulted variants it was identified three optimum solutions for the designing of the stitch cam.
