The Occurance and Stability of Some Toxic Compounds and Carcinogens in Dyes Extracted from Tixtiles and Child- Wear Distributed in the Egyptian Local Markets

Summary

According to epidemiological studies, exposure of human to dyes from
occupational, dietary, and wearing some clothes appears to be an important
risk factor for cancer, phototoxicity, photoallergy etc. Therefore, dyes were
extracted from child-wear distributed in the Egyptian markets and analyzed for
some toxic and carcinogenic compounds using HPLC technique. Also, the effect
of different detergent solutions on the stability of dyes consequently the
concentration of determined compounds was also in the scope of this
investigation. The obtained data indicated that some knitted clothes i.e.
T-shirt , pollo shirt and sweater and textiles fabric i.e. towel contained
significant concentrations of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and organic amines
(benzidine, 2- naphthylamine, and O-Toluidine). The all of recorded
concentration for the nominated compounds were higher than mentioned in
(A.S.T.M.). Some commercial detergent solution leads to increase the
concentration of these compounds by different rates in washing water. The
presence of significant amounts of these toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic
compounds in wearing clothes and polluted of the aquatic and terrestrial
environment with washing drain water may be represented an indication one
causes for the prevalence of cancer in the community. But, more studies in the
future have to be done in this field
