Improvement of the functional performance of Polyethylene ropes: Part (I)
Summary
Since high-density polyethylene (HDPE) ropes have been used widely in many industries, their properties and effect on the performance behavior should be thoroughly studied for each application. Processing of HDPO includes mixing of raw material and production of the continuous fiber through perforated mold. Many parameters have been found to affect the rope behavior such as length of the lay in the strand unit, fibre distribution between outer layer and core, and number of twist/m of the preliminary strand as well as the count of the yarn used. The effect of adding ‘polyethylene wax’ and ‘Di-2-ethyl-hexylhtate’ with different proportions on its performance behavior of LPDE was studied. The ropes with differenrt compositions were tested to find out the optimum composition and the results obtained showed an improvement in the ropes behaviors.
