US imports of cotton blue denim trousers for men (HS 6203.42.40.10) rose nearly 18% in the January-September period to US$1.16 billion, reflecting a sharp rise in the first part of the year, followed by a clear slowdown during the summer.
Imports even declined 0.97% in September, in volume terms.
Prices increased as a result of higher cotton costs with average unit price rising from US$94.30 per dozen in the first nine months of 2002 up to US$99.14 in the same period of 2002.
In September, however, average price was back to US$96.94 per dozen.
Egypt's average unit price is far below the average as it is only 82 USD/dozen. Unit Value in US$/dozen (Jan-Sep 2003) :
