274.2% growth in Tunisian textiles FDI

According Touibi Khaled, Director General of the textiles and clothing within the Ministry of Industry, Energy and SMEs, foreign direct investment in the sector have recorded a growth of 274.2% during the three first months of 2009 compared to the same period of 2008.

The volume of these investments has increased from 7.2 million dinars during the first three months of 2008 up to 25 million dinars. According to our source, this growth was mainly due to an investment volume of 19.8 million dinars made in January by « Teinture et Finissage Méditerranéen »the company in Ben Arous industrial zone, an investment that provided in its first phase 61 jobs. The second largest foreign investment in terms of volume is Damart, which has chosen to focus on Tunisia for all of its production.
