Cotton yarn export rose 50pc, NA told
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Textile and Industry Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan on told the Lower House of the Parliament that export of cotton yarn had increased by 50 per cent during the first half of the current fiscal year as compared to last year.

Replying to a question during question hour, he said prices of cotton and yarn had risen sharply in the domestic market due to higher export of yarn. The price of cotton had increased from Rs3,175 per maund in December to Rs4,869 per maund in December 2009, he added.
Rana Farooq said in order to ensure availability of yarn, the government had imposed a cap of 35 million kgs from March 1 to June 30 on export of yarn. These steps would help improve the local availability of yarn in the country significantly, he added. To another question, the minister said export of cotton cloth fell by 4 per cent and bed wear by 10 per cent during 2008-09 due to global economic recession and power and gas load shedding.
