The surge in oil prices will not be easily transmitted to polyester prices. Although crude oil prices reached a new record in New York, boosting spot paraxylene prices in Asia, PTA and MEG prices did not really rise in the last week, mainly due to a weak level in demand from polyester producers. Polyester staple fiber prices did not move, also reflecting a lack of demand from China's textile industry.
