Textile Co. Settles Environmental Violations
U.S. textiles company Invista has agreed to spend up to $500 million to correct environmental violations at facilities in seven states and will also pay a $1.7 million fine, the Justice Department and Environmental Protection Agency announced Monday.

The agencies said Kansas-based Invista had disclosed more than 680 environmental violations to the EPA after the company audited 12 facilities it acquired from DuPont Co. (DD) in 2004.
The Invista facilities violated water, air, hazardous waste and other regulations, the agencies said.
EPA said the settlement was the largest ever under the agency's audit policy, which encourages companies to promptly disclose and correct environmental violations.
Invista, which manufactures Lycra, Stainmaster, Coolmax and other polymer-based fibers, is a unit of privately held Koch Industries Inc., also based in Kansas.
An Invista official did not immediately return a call for comment.
