TUNISIA: Exports of Tunisian textile on the increase
Textile is the first manufacturing sector in Tunisia, representing 36% of manufacturing exports, generating 3 billion Euros. Tunisia is also the first exporter to Europe on the southern Mediterranean shore according to the Tunis Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to "investir-en-tunisie", in 2010, Tunisia witnessed an increase of 16.9% in export value of textile products and 12.7% in volume; the T-shirts subsidiary grew to 10.29% in value and 2, 55% in volume mainly on the Italian market. The latest increase in Tunisian exports of textile products, comes at time when the industry is globally affected by a strong competition and a decrease in demand.

In a related event, professionals, traders and experts from the Maghreb and Western countries will discover, from March 16 to 18, the latest creations of Tunisian textile and clothing, as part of the 11th Mediterranean Exhibition of textiles and clothing, "TEXMED Tunisia 2010", which will gather 250 exhibitors representing various countries of the Mediterranean.
Tunisia is the 5th supplier of the European Union (EU). Some 1000 foreign companies are currently operating in the textile and clothing sector in Tunisia. It is also the 3rd EU supplier of jeans, the 4th supplier of pants and the 5th in ready to wear garments
